RE: Jayco 30GS - Slide cut LP hose
Where is the hose accessible? I have an '06 Greyhawk 30GS and want to check it out. Is it under the sink cabinet or stove or is it buried somewhere else? Thanks
This was under the rig. I crawled in on the driver side, right about where the generator is located. I was able to squeeze in between the drive shaft and the truck frame to gain access to the hose.
I currently have my rig setting up on 4x4 blocks to give me enough room to maneuver.
Jayco 30GS - Slide cut LP hose
Last week I turned on the LP and I noticed a full flow sound at the regulator instead of the normal click of recharging the lines. Also, the smell of LP was present. Naturally, I turned the tank off to see what was going on...before we go boom.:E
What I discovered was a completely severed LP hose under the kitchen slide-out.
So, this is the hose after I removed both ends from the RV.

It seems that the LP hose supplying the stove got caught somewhere in the slide mechanism and was completely severed. Looking closely at the hose, it looks like it has been pinched several times and has been chaffing in some spots.
Anyway, the point of this post is to suggest that other Jayco owners that have a sliding kitchen may want to have a look-see. I have heard of this type of issue on the Seneca, but I have not seen any posts for the Greyhawk.
I cannot tell what part of the slide actually did the cut as both ends were hanging straight down. But, I will certainly be careful with the replacement to assure it moves free and clear.
I guess it could have been worse, so I 'm not complaining, just posting FYI.
RE: Gulf Stream super C quality?
We spent a lot of time looking at the Super C's in Hershey yesterday. The Gulf Steam dealer reps were real busy answering questions. A lot of lookers, even with the monsoon rain storms going on.
I came away impressed, but I don't own one....yet. :)
RE: jayco Greyhawk 31ss
I've been considering the doing the same as yus140. I thought about hanging some sort of mount over the desk by using a swivel arm type mount but the sides of the closet are not just not substantial enough.
I am going to order this particular Desk Mount and bolt it to either the top of the desk or to the top of the closet.
RE: Hershey RV Show - Anyone going?
Going Friday!
First time I've been to a show since 2005, when I bought the current ride.
This time, however, I'll be escorted by the chief financial officer....(DW)
:D
RE: nascar michigan race
I've never done the Michigan race, but You might want to try this LINK and go to the NASCAR Campgrounds section. There is a thread on the Michigan track.
Enjoy the race.
RE: Overnight stay on either I-81S or I-95S, in VA
Just to comment on the I-81 side; there are plenty of nice campgrounds scattered along the route. Just a tad south of the I-64 interchange there is a campground called Walnut Hills. It's a few miles off of I-64 and we stop there occasionally.
There is a fairly nice KOA that sits on the river near Harrisonburg that I've heard was a good stop.
I spend so much time on I-95 for work-related stuff that I avoid it like the plague.
Happy Travels!
RE: Crock Pot to pre-cook my ribs?
I buy the large slab of pork ribs and first, drink a beer; next dry the slab and drink a beer; next rub down with the seasoning and drink a beer; fire up grill (gas) and drink a beer; turn off all but one burner (on low) and slap the slab ( funny thing there) on the grill and drink beer; turn over about a hour later (slab not me) and cook for about 2 1/2 hours per side; drink beer. Last hour baste with bar-b-q sauce each side; drink beer. After about five hours of cooking, who wants to eat? Oh by the way, I mix up 1/2 and 1/2 Sweet Baby Rays Honey sauce and chapolte'(?) heat up some Bush'es Grilling Beans and some 'tater salad and have at it.
Charles...you're my kinda guy!
Happy 4th!
RE: Weber Q100 Grill
I took a paper towel, lightly moistened with veggy oil and wiped around the inside of the top and grill surfaces. Just my personal preference.
RE: Happy hour recipies
It's always happy hour!
Breakfast: White Russian. Vodka, Kaluha and milk over ice.
Lunch: Bloody Mary: Campbell's tomato juice, Durkee red hot, Celery or celery seed, pinch of sugar, pinch coarse black pepper, few drops of worcester and a few of dill pickle juice. Don't forget the vodka.
Dinner: Sweet tea and vodka.
Desert: Shot of Sambucca with a bit of Kaluha sunk to the bottom.
Midnight snack: Jello shots. Your call.
(did I hurt my back or is that my liver?)
Now THAT is my kinda thinking! ;)
Although I might use the Kaluha in vodka vs. Sambucca.
But, nice drink menu! Happy-days!
RE: Smith Mountain Lake State Park, VA
Just got back. Spent 4 wonderful days there.
In short, the campground is very nice and the sites are mostly shaded. Some sites are better than others, for sure. We were fortunate to get the the only true "pull-through" site where you could have your awning facing away from the road. The others were on the inside of the campground loop and your table and fire ring was on the driver side.
Most of the back-in sites were plenty spacious for TT's, 5vers, or C's. I only saw one large A in there and it fit ok, but it was fairly snug.
The campground hosts were very cordial and hard-working. I think they did a terrific job. They were out and about all the time, greeting arrivals, catching snakes, cleaning the bathhouse....SNAKES? Yea, there was one ole blacksnake crawling around, he got scooped-up and transported to a remote area, away from the camp.
One thing to note: If you plan to use the beach, you will need a vehicle to get there. It's a good 2 maybe 3 miles from one to the other. There is a hiking trial from the campground down to the lake, but it is not a place that you would want to take a dip. Its in the back of a cove and not anything more than a place to hike and sit for a bit. I would guess that it is close to a 1 mile walk altogether.
Oh, and finally, I would recommend the short hike out to Turtle Island. It is really nice place to sit and watch the lake.
Hope you enjoy. We certainly did.
:)
RE: Campground suggestion near I95, mid state North Carolina
Another ditto on RVacation. It's just real easy to get into and the folks are really nice.
Last time, we were so tired we didn't want to cook, so we ordered delivery pizza from the local joint and that was really good, too.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
RE: RV Disaster Averted @ Coca-Cola 600
rock;
I would say you are right. There is some difference in the actual location of shut-off valves from one model to another, but the key is: "non-locking." On my class c, the tank and main shut-off is, as you say, in a non-locking compartment.
On the unit that was burning, we apparently had 2 valves. I found a cut-off switch (not an ordinary valve) on the curb side of the unit that was behind a non-locking access door that was about 8 inches square. Behind the door was a rotatory switch labeled "LP" with a red indicator light. I rotated it one click clockwise and the light went off. The Fire Chief found another valve (or maybe it was a switch) inside and turned it off.
The key element here is: Know your rig. We were running laps around the burning unit trying to shut-off the propane until I finally realized that the only place it could be was behind the small non-locking access door. I started out looking for a big compartment type door just like the one I have.
RE: RV Disaster Averted @ Coca-Cola 600
DW is convinced that these races are not much fun. She doesn't do racing.
I just say, "OK Hun, I'll try to have some fun, anyway."
:)
RE: RV Disaster Averted @ Coca-Cola 600
I have 3 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS...
BTW...have an extra wiskey....you survived a potential disaster.....
:) Cheers!
I installed #3 today, as well.
Oh, speaking of extra whiskey:

Yours truly with the Jim Beam Hospitality Girls, 2 hours later.
SWEEEEET!!!
RE: RV Disaster Averted @ Coca-Cola 600
reset: the fridge was "serviced" just prior to the fire. Apparently it was not functioning well while running on propane, and the guy poked around in there to get it going. My best guess is that whatever he did, he caused the propane flame to catch-up the insulation. Perhaps he even altered the way the propane burner was operating enough to over-heat the area around the fridge and start the fire. All I know is that whatever happened internally, the outside cover got hot enough to deform a bit.
RE: RV Disaster Averted @ Coca-Cola 600
Pete and Polish: :) True. Within 2 hours I was in the Jim Beam tent, slurping down more whiskey and having my photo taken with the Hospitality Girls.....Sweet!!
Ruth, I recommend that you find the shut-off and get a back-up extinguisher. You never know....
Rock: It is my understanding that this was not a dealer unit. It was privately owned with a rental agency involved. But, still.....I can't believe that anyone would strip out those basic safety items.
outdoors: There was a topic going on that incident. The track officials went and retrived the tire, but I think someone said that the 83 crew was going to make it right for the pop-up owner. I would hope so.
RV Disaster Averted @ Coca-Cola 600
Thankfully, we didn't make the newspapers this past weekend. But, it was a close shave.
When I arrived at the Tim Flock campground on Wednesday, I was directed to back into my site, next to a big Monaco, which was parked nose-in. That meant we would be awning to awning with our neighbor, but just fine with me. What the heck, we'll have a good time getting to know some new friends. And when they arrived (the Monaco was a rental) they quickly settled in and we proceeded to become the best of friends.
So, on Saturday, we had been sharing stories and a few beers and one of the guys was a bit of a procrastinator...his wife was kinda having to push him a little to get his shower and get going, so they didn't leave as early as she wanted and she finally got up to go back inside and discovered there was smoke inside the RV.:E
Well, that's a "GENERAL QUARTERS" call for me....All hands on deck. We jumped up and started searching for the source...it was the fridge (which had just had a service call a few hours earlier) and we got the outside cover off to see, yep...flames. I frantically searched for the propane cut-off and we found it and shut it off. We still had flames....I grabbed my fire extinguisher, and got my back-up "BIG_BOY" extinguisher, and we got going with knocking it down. I know I'm making this sound like it was an inferno; it wasn't....yet.
Then I remembered...we had not called for any help...A major DUH on my part, so I made the call. I had wasted valuable minutes...Damn! It seemed like a long time, in the panic of the moment, but finally help was coming.
So by now the guys had knocked out the flames and they were starting to pull out the smoldering insulation. In my mind this thing wasn't over yet. We still had smoke, therefore fire, or the potential to get going again...I remember sitting at the Daytona Pepsi 400 one year and watching 3 units go up in flames in the infield during qualifying. Heck, this ain't going to happen to me! I pulled in my awning and started to rip off the snooze bonnet...I'm ready to fire-up and leave, slide-outs notwithstanding.
Thankfully, the fire department arrived before I took off in a blind panic with the slides still out.:o And, of course, this was no big deal for the fire pros. They checked for extension with the thermal gizmo and made sure everything was safe, wrote their reports and left.:Z
I sat down to an extra large whiskey on the rocks and just marveled at what had just happened, and what could have happened.
Folks, I'm here to tell you that this thing could have been a disaster. I am absolutely amazed....That rental unit did NOT HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER on board! Nor did it have a smoke detector or a CO detector.:M
Nope, we didn't make the news, but I thought it might be an interesting topic for this post Memorial Day Tuesday.:)
Whew! That was one heck of a weekend. The race was kinda boring, but the camping was memorable!
RE: Has anyone stayed at Crow's Nest, MD?
Full Hook-ups are not available, however, there is one area (the Addison Loop) where you can get electric.
Here is a link to the State Park.
Scroll down and click on "map of the area" and you will see the loops, etc.
Happy Camping!
